SHARON OSBOURNE Colon Cancer Program Established

KABC-TV is reporting that Cedars-Sinai Medical Center announced Thursday (August 5) the establishment of the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program in honor of "The Osbournes" matriarch who has battled colon cancer that is now in remission.

"I am passionate about making it my personal mission to do what I can to make sure that all colon cancer patients are empowered with the same resources and receive the same level of treatment I received," said Osbourne, who starred with rock star husband, Ozzy, and two of their children on the hit unscripted MTV series and also hosted a syndicated talk show.

In a written statement, Osbourne noted that colon cancer is a "particularly insidious disease that strikes both men and women," and that the treatments can be highly effective but "out of reach financially for too many."

"When I saw people taking the public bus after a chemotherapy treatment, I knew I had to get involved," she said, adding that the program is "the embodiment of a dream of mine and partnering with Cedars-Sinai allows me to touch the lives of so many others."

Osbourne was diagnosed with colon cancer in July 2002 and treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and is now fully recovered, with the cancer in remission, according to the statement. Read more.
