SCOTT WEILAND: We Are Ready To 'Rock Out A Hundred Percent For Our Fans'

May 2, 2015

Former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland spoke to 4Chords reporter Jennifer Kessinger prior to his scheduled April 25 performance at the Welcome To Rockville festival in Jacksonville, Florida. You can watch the chat below.

Weiland's set at the event — which would have been the first show of the singer's current tour with his band THE WILDABOUTS — was canceled due to severe storms.

Asked if the fact that his appearance at Welcome To Rockville was called off bodes poorly for the rest of the tour, Weiland responded: "Every day is a new day, so… We rehearsed for two weeks every day, and we're ready to move on and just rock out a hundred percent for our fans."

As previously reported, Weiland has been harshly criticized following several performances on his current tour with THE WILDABOUTS, with one review calling his performance "sluggish" and another stating flat-out that the vocalist "appears to have crashed and burned. Badly."

Not helping matters is a fan-filmed video of THE WILDABOUTS performing the STP classic "Vasoline" in Corpus Christi, Texas on Tuesday night (April 28),with Weiland introducing it as a "new song" before launching into a painfully out of tune and apathetic vocal performance as the band plays quite solidly behind him.

Several fans commented about the video on YouTube, calling it "unacceptable" and "heartbreaking," with one adding, "Enough is enough! SCOTT, PLEASE GET HELP!!! And how can the band play like nothing's wrong?"

A Houston Press review of the band's April 29 gig there stated, "Trouble has definitely become a vortex for Weiland, and he appears to have crashed and burned. Badly. To be fair, as sluggish as Weiland appears now onstage, he does appear to be trying, at least in part."

Asked recently about whether a reunion with Weiland was ever possible, STP guitarist Dean DeLeo said, "Why the fuck would we want that? That fucking mess?" The band's current singer is LINKIN PARK's Chester Bennington.

STP dismissed Weiland in February 2013, claiming that his erratic behavior held back the band's career. The two parties exchanged lawsuits which have since been settled.

STP recruited Bennington that spring and have so far cut one EP, "High Rise", with him. A new album is due out later this year.

Weiland and THE WILDABOUTS are on the road promoting his new album, "Blaster", which came out on March 31.
