SCOTT WEILAND Requests Case Be Diverted To A Drug Court Program

STONE STEMPLE PILOTS/VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland appeared in a Burbank, California, court on Friday (July 25) to request his case be diverted to a drug court program, where his possession charges could be dismissed upon completion of the program, according to MTV.com. Eligibility is typically based on possession for personal use, not for sale, among other factors. Weiland will next appear in a Pasadena court on August 15 to find out if he qualifies.

The 35-year-old musician, who pleaded innocent to two felony charges of possession of heroin and cocaine in early June, was arrested May 17 after a police officer pulled him over for allegedly driving without headlights on and said he saw drugs in the car.

He previously was arrested for investigation of cocaine and heroin possession and served jail time in 1999 after repeatedly violating his probation and failing to complete drug rehabilitation programs.
