SCOTT WEILAND: I Only Used Drugs Three Or Four Times In The Last Year

June 19, 2004

RollingStone.com has posted a lengthy VELVET REVOLVER article in which the bandmembers talk about everything from their previous groups to their battles with drug addiction. Several excerpts follow:

Singer Scott Weiland attempting to "clear up" erroneous information about him that has appeared in the press:

"I kicked my heroin habit a year ago, in May. I only used three or four times in the last year, and I've been completely abstinent for over six months. It's been printed that I was arrested for drunk driving. The alleged DUI that I got, I passed that field sobriety test, but I told them I was on my prescription medicines for bipolar disorder, so they had to give me a urinalysis. And I am not on fucking work furlough."

Drummer Matt Sorum on being fired from GUNS N' ROSES:

"I said [to Axl Rose], 'We need Slash.' He said, 'Fuck that, I'm GUNS N' ROSES, I don't need Slash.' I said, 'I think you're mistaken.' "

Guitarist Slash on GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited "Chinese Democracy" album:

"I don't know any more than you do. There's only a couple of songs with vocals on it — I know that for a fact. But it will come out one of these days."

Weiland on VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan:

"Duff was a huge inspiration to me. A lot of people who don't know him, they just think he's an alcohol- and drug-addled rock star married to a hot chick. In actuality, he means what he says, he says what he means. He's a great father, a loving husband, I like the way he handles his finances."
