Review: ARCH ENEMY Rocked, EVERGREY Sucked At Toronto's Club Rockit

September 5, 2003

Keith Carman of Canada's Chart Attack reviewed the ARCH ENEMY/HATE ETERNAL/EVERGREY/BLACK DAHLIA MURDER tour when it came through Toronto on Monday (September 1).

"How amusing was it to watch as this packed house was barely able to comprehend the hardcore influence found in BLACK DAHLIA MURDER's metallic sheen? Fucking hilarious, let me tell you. The BDM played incredibly well despite having lost two-fifths of their fold less than a week ago, ravaging the stage with their… metalcore, if you will. The BDM were hot and eager to please, despite being stonewalled by a sea of faces that obviously couldn't understand how these clean-cut dudes managed to sound heavier than GOD FORBID. The most original band on the bill, it's surprising that these incredibly thunderous underdogs were left virtually ignored, especially given the ravenous adoration of Sweden's EVERGREY.

"God, what a horrible band! People… they suck! If it weren't for a dude blasting out double bass drumbeats, NICKELBACK could use EVERGREY's material on their next album — although I think Chad has more taste than to do something so stupid. Wanky and full of pointless crooning, EVERGREY were the furthest thing from metal in the room, yet they were soaked up like semen on bed sheets. Although no one can fault them for their performance (they were spot-on),they were so lame. The bassist was wearing a leather skirt that was collecting the sweat from his belly, the singer did more hair-flipping than Farrah Fawcett and they had keyboards! Keyboards with sampled choruses of soul singers!" Read more.
