Report: York Mayor Shuts Down TWISTED SISTER Concert

July 15, 2004

Mike Hoover of the York Daily Record is reporting that plans to hold a downtown York rock concert featuring the heavy metal glam band TWISTED SISTER were shut down by city officials who said there was no way to assemble the needed police protection on short notice.

York Mayor John Brenner said he pulled the plug on a concert planned for July 3 after event organizers gave city officials three days notice of a proposal to close the first block of West Market Street.

Brenner said Wednesday that given the short notice and a July Fourth holiday weekend, there was no way the city had police to handle the crowds attending the concert outside of the Hardware Bar.

"They wanted to use police services we did not have," Brenner said.

Locally, the Hardware Bar was promoting the appearance of TWISTED SISTER at its downtown York location.

Reached Wednesday, Hardware Bar owner Ron Kamionka refused to discuss the cancellation of the TWISTED SISTER concert, saying the only association he had with the band was owning a few of the group's albums.

"I don't remember. A lot goes on during a week," Kamionka said. Read more.
