Report: Man Who Embezzled From WHITESNAKE Singer Gets 6-Month Sentence

According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, a man who embezzled more than $287,000 from WHITESNAKE founder David Coverdale and his wife, Cindy, was sentenced to six months in jail.

Eric Hosmer, 44, was hired as a groundskeeper by Coverdale and his family, who own multiple properties in in Incline Village in North Lake Tahoe, Nevada. According to the police, Hosmer was submitting fradulent invoices to Coverdale's accounting firm for payment.

Washoe Judge Patrick Flanagan ordered Hosmer to probation for two counts of felony theft and ordered he pay restitution of more than $69,000.

"He's an amazing con man and liar," Cindy Coverdale said, adding that he did not deserve probation and would be a threat to someone else.

David Coverdale said that Hosmer stole from them on a daily basis.

"He's a deceiver, liar and a thief," the 60-year-old vocalist said in a short statement to Flanagan.

Hosmer was arrested in March, soon after the theft was discovered by a financial adviser.

"The victims were people who essentially extended their hand to you," Flanagan told Hosmer. "They are as innocent as any employer ... Money can be replaced. Trust is something that probably never can be replaced."

A Washoe County Sheriff press release announcing Hosmer's arrest back in March 2011 can be found at this location (PDF file).
