Report: Former MOTÖRHEAD Roadie Warned Police About London Terrorist Attack

June 25, 2006

antiMUSIC is reporting that a former roadie for MOTÖRHEAD tried to warn police about two radical Muslims that helped carry out the July 7, 2005 terrorist attack in London. Martin Gilbertson worked as a computer technician for individuals involved with an Islamic bookshop and youth center Beeston, West Yorkshire. He told The Guardian that he met two of the terrorist involved in the attack, Mohammed Sidique Khan and Shehzad Tanweer, at a party held to celebrate the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the U.S. Gilbertson went to work for the group helping produce DVDs and encrypting email, according to an AP report. "I was alarmed and disgusted by what I heard, but I kept my views to myself and they were friendly," Gilbertson said. "They needed my skills, and I was perceived to be anti-government."

However, by October 2003 he said he became so alarmed by "what was going on around [him that he] went to the police." He was instructed to mail police the material he had collected and the list of names, which he did, but he didn't hear back from police until he contacted them again after the July 7 attack on London.

Gilbertson, also reportedly a former member of the Hell's Angels, said he took the work to help makes ends meet for his family. "I'm good at what I do, and I've got kids to feed. And after a while, I became so alarmed by what was going on around me, I went to the police."
