RAVEN Likely To Cancel WACKEN OPEN AIR Appearance

June 3, 2002

Veteran British metallers RAVEN will likely cancel their appearance at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival in early August due to continued medical complications experienced by guitarist Mark Gallagher as a result of leg injuries he sustained (shattered ankle on one leg, most of the flesh ripped off the other) when a "20-foot wall" fell on him in early November. According to frontman/brother John Gallagher, "[Mark is] working very hard at rehabilitating himself but has to go in for another operation next week to remove some bone from his ankle area & a lot of scar tissue.. All this is restricting his foot movement... Also, he's having problems with his right knee, so its looking doubtful we'll be able to do our planned August shows but we are waiting on the word from his doctor. The last thing we need is Mark going on stage not properly healed, and him forgetting this and acting like the nut job he is, and screwing up his legs... So we shall have to see... I hope you understand this is all terribly frustrating & upsetting for him and to realize how lucky he is to even be here after that accident...and he still has a long way to go before he can 'recover'... So, its another obstacle for us to work on... and we shall!!"
