PUDDLE OF MUDD Singer's Arrest Prompts University To Cancel Concert

February 27, 2004

Robb Murray of Free Press.com is reporting that Minnesota State University has canceled a concert by PUDDLE OF MUDD because of lead singer Wes Scantlin's arrest in Toledo, Ohio last Sunday (Feb. 22).

MSU officials reportedly canceled the band's March 29 gig at the on-campus Taylor Center after hearing that Scantlin, 31, was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief after authorities say he threw a bottle and spit at the crowd during a show. MSU had not signed a contract and therefore did not have to forfeit any of the $40,000 it planned to pay the band, according to Free Press.

Kelly Meier, director of MSU's Student Leadership Development and Service Learning office, said they didn't want the university's annual spring concert to put students at risk.

"Safety is our first and foremost concern," Meier reportedly said.
