Police Arrest CREED Guitarist Impersonator

April 30, 2003

Police in Clearwater, Florida have arrested a man for impersonating CREED guitarist Mark Tremonti, Billboard.com has reported. Over the past few weeks, a man staying at beach hotels claimed to be Tremonti and even handed out autographed copies of publicity photos.

Police say the man is actually Kevin Eckenrod, who has been arrested more than 60 times, many for scamming and swindling. Eckenrod bears a passing resemblance to Tremonti, although he's 11 years older than the guitarist.

Police say Eckenrod told them he's a "stone-cold alcoholic" and that was his way of getting drinks and a place to stay. He later told police, "This is getting old, but you have to admit I do look like the guy from CREED."

A woman told police she had invited him to her home and he took her credit card from her back pocket while kissing her. She spotted him at a restaurant Sunday and called police. Eckenrod is being held in jail on $20,000 bail.
