OZZY Wins 'Godlike Genius' Award

February 12, 2004

Ozzy Osbourne has been honored with the "Godlike Genius" award at the NME Awards, according to ITV.com.

The former BLACK SABBATH singer is at home in Los Angeles recovering from his recent all-terrain vehicle accident, but sent a thank you message on video.

He said he had no idea why the award had been bestowed on him.

"I'm far from being a genius," he said. "Look at what happened to me before Christmas — that's hardly genius.

"I ended up nearly breaking my neck and breaking my collarbone and ribs, and being in intensive care and in a coma. I'm just glad I'm still breathing."

Previous recipients of the award include THE CLASH and Sir Paul McCartney.

Daughter Kelly was at the ceremony in Po Na Na's in Hammersmith, west London, to pick it up on his behalf.

THE DARKNESS were up for a host of awards, including best U.K. band, best live band and best single for "I Believe In A Thing Called Love", but won nothing.
