OTEP Frontwoman Interviewed On 103.7 KRZR

April 2, 2010

Skippy of Fresno, California's 103.7 KRZR radio station recently conducted an interview with OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya. The chat is now available for streaming using the audio player below.

"Rise, Rebel, Resist", the new video from OTEP, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Scott Hansen, whose video work ranges from pop-hardcore heroes A DAY TO REMEMBER to the legendary singer-songwriter WILLIE NELSON. "I had this idea to have some politician enveloped inside of their own chaos," explains Hansen. "What better way to tell that idea than to pick your favorite politician and tie them up in a death chair and make them listen to the public."

Comments Otep Shamaya: "The 'Rise, Rebel, Resist' video is a reflection of the outrage the American people are feeling at the absurd hypocrisy, and overwhelming nonsense and balderdash plaguing Washington D.C. It uses a bit of satire and a bit of wishful thinking to form this powerful amalgam of imagery that nourishes and empowers the living art of the song. Our message is clear: Either these elected officials do their job and protect the rights and lives of ALL Americans or be prepared to face the consequences."

Shamaya was recently nominated for "Outstanding Music Artist" in the 21st annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards.

An outspoken advocate of gay rights, Shamaya serves as a key figure in the movement to promote fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

OTEP is currently taking part in the "Rise Rebel Resist Tour" alongside Victory Records labelmates BURY YOUR DEAD and DESTROPHY, with special guests THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD.

OTEP is promoting its fourth full-length studio album, "Smash The Control Machine", which sold around 10,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 47 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on August 18, 2009 via Victory Records.
