ORCHESTRA OF STRATEGIC INFLUENCE: The Prog-Rock Supergroup!

July 16, 2002

DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy, FATES WARNING guitarist Jim Matheos, CHROMA KEY/ex-DREAM THEATER keyboardist Kevin Moore, and GORDIAN KNOT/ex-CYNIC bassist Sean Malone have set OSI (ORCHESTRA OF STRATEGIC INFLUENCE) as the name of their much-anticipated prog-rock "supergroup" project, which commenced the recording sessions for their self-titled debut album in early June at the Carriage House Studios in Stamford, Connecticut. So far, Portnoy has finished recording all the drums for the CD, and Matheos began laying down the guitars last week. Kevin is due to fly to Jim's place in New Hampshire today (Tuesday, July 16th) to start recording his keys, programming and vocals, before returning to his home residence of Costa Rica around August 20th.

According to the keyboardist, OSI's material sounds "kind of TOOL-ish (heavy with odd time signatures),with a lot of crazy computer programming, lots of spoken word samples and processed vocals. Parts of it will sound FATES WARNING-ish".

A late October/early November through Inside Out Music is expected.
