NIGHTWISH Singer To Tour With TIMO RAUTIAINEN & TRIO NISKALAUKAUS

March 31, 2003

NIGHTWISH frontwoman Tarja Turunen will tour with TIMO RAUTIAINEN & TRIO NISKALAUKAUS for several weeks in June/July.

"Yes, it's true. I will tour with NISKALAUKAUS for their first gigs this summer," Tarja confirmed in a statement posted on NIGHTWISH's official web site. "Timo [Rautiainen] called me end of last year and asked me if I was interested in this kind of 'part-time activity' during NIGHTWISH's break. My calendar was empty for those days so I said yes."

When asked what her role in the band will be, Tarja said, "I'm really going to sing with Timo. The other NISKALAUKAUS members first didn't like the idea at all, but the rehearsals went so great that we are really looking forward to this opportunity. I know that some songs will sound a little different. For example, when I try to sing like Wilska in 'Nyt On Mies' (Now is a Man),of course, I will be singing 'Nyt On Nainen' (Now is a Woman). I have been training to sing in a very different way and lower my voice with whiskey, which is totally new to me. It's doesn't affect my ability as an opera singer, it just adds more elements to my voice."

Upcoming TIMO RAUTIAINEN & TRIO NISKALAUKAUS tour dates:

May 31 – Kauhajoki, FIN - Kauhajoen Kasino
Jun. 01 - Heinola, FIN - Heinolassa Jyrää
Jun. 28 - Imatra, FIN - Imatra Big Band Festival
Jun. 30 - Kuopio, FIN - Kuopion Viinijuhlat
Jul. 09 - Oulu, FIN - Oulun Rotuaari Picnic
Jul. 10 - Kemi, FIN - Hullun Mylly

[UPDATE: Since this item was originally published, NIGHTWISH's webmaster, Christian Lessner, has contacted BLABBERMOUTH.NET to let us know that "the news about [NIGHTWISH singer] Tarja Turunen joining TRIO NISKALAUKAUS (and singing like Wilska) was our April 1 joke. Unfortunately, it got to you early because of the time difference to Finland."]
