Tom Alesia of the Wisconsin State Journal is reporting that the 17th annual Milwaukee Metalfest — where bands play sledgehammer rock that practically lodges a guitar into one ear and out the other — will present more than 120 acts on Friday and Saturday (July 25-26)." 'You've got thrash metal, speed metal, classic metal, death metal, prog metal, hardcore metal, punk metal,' says Jack Koshick, who founded and promotes Metalfest. He takes a breath before continuing, 'goth metal, nu metal and doom metal. A lot has happened since the days of (metal pioneers) IRON MAIDEN and BLACK SABBATH.' "Those sounds will put up to 8,000 headbangers in the U.S. Cellular Arena, formerly the MECCA, for an event seemingly capable of causing Milwaukee to shake until the spiffy new art museum tumbles into Lake Michigan. " 'It's loud,' Koshick says. 'You don't play metal at (volume) 2.' "Koshick stresses metal's grass-roots and independent label acts. Ice-T's metal band BODY COUNT may be the only group on the lineup known outside metal music's faithful — and that's thanks only to Ice-T's controversial 1993 song 'Cop Killer'. "Instead, Metalfest has served as a launching pad for numerous metal acts in their infancy. KORN, DISTURBED, KITTIE, SEVENDUST and COAL CHAMBER each played Metalfest before stepping into the national limelight." Read more.
