Chris Riemenschneider of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune reviewed the Ozzfest 2003 tour when it came through town Saturday (July 19)."As unchanging and unkillable as its namesake headliner, OZZY OSBOURNE's eighth annual Ozzfest concert at Float-Rite Park loaded up on shock value but ultimately offered few surprises Saturday," he writes. "As in past years, the daylong rock fest was essentially a $60 beer bash by the river with 19,000 people. Showing off tattoos and checking out the greatly outnumbered female fans seemed more important than watching the bands — at least until OZZY and coheadliners KORN and MARILYN MANSON performed. "From the bunch of dangerously named but indistinguishable second-stage bands that started the show (including NOTHINGFACE, SHADOWS FALL and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) to Ozzy's mostly routine finale set, the concert was as predictable as a rerun of MTV's 'The Osbournes'. "The king of metal, 54, led the usual expletive-laced chants ('Louder! Louder!') and played too many old songs that have stood up to time even worse than he has, including 'Goodbye to Romance' and 'Suicide Solution'. After canceling shows last week because of laryngitis, he sounded uncomfortable in better tunes, like the opener 'War Pigs' and 'I Don't Know'." Read more (free registration required)
