MIKE PATTON Cancels National Anthem Performance At NFL Playoffs

January 12, 2019

FAITH NO MORE frontman Mike Patton has announced a last-minute cancelation of his national anthem performance at today's (Saturday, January 12) NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys.

"Sorry, football folks, I woke up feeling horrible," he wrote in a Facebook message this afternoon. "No anthem today for me!"

Patton was set to voice his rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" prior to the game's kickoff, which is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET / 5:15 p.m. PT, at LA Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California.

Mike is still expected to participate in the upcoming benefit concert in memory of late SOUNDGARDEN and AUDIOSLAVE frontman Chris Cornell. Billed as "I Am The Highway: A Tribute To Chris Cornell", the event will take place at the Forum in Los Angeles on January 16. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the show will feature performances from FOO FIGHTERS and METALLICA, as well as appearances from Cornell's former bandmates in SOUNDGARDEN, AUDIOSLAVE, TEMPLE OF THE DOG and more.

Over the years, Patton has recorded and toured with a number of different projects, including FAITH NO MORE, MR. BUNGLE, TOMAHAWK, FANTÔMAS and DEAD CROSS.

In 2018, Patton's score for the Netflix adaptation of Stephen King's "1922" got a physical release. It marked the singer's fourth score for a full-length movie; Patton previously scored the films "Crank: High Voltage" (2009),"The Solitude Of Prime Numbers" (2010) and "The Place Beyond The Pines" (2012).
