MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE Is This Year's 'Golden God'

June 10, 2015

For the first time in the history of the Metal Hammer Golden Gods, an award recipient is being named upfront of the night. The Golden God Award (sponsored by Orange Amplification) will be presented to MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine.

Set to take place at IndigO2 in London on June 15, the Metal Hammer Golden Gods once again has the fans at its core and brings them together with the artists, shoulder to shoulder, like no other event.

Dave Mustaine is best known as the frontman and creative force behind MEGADETH, the band which in June 2015 celebrates the 30th anniversary of the release of its seminal album "Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!" (originally made available on June 12, 1985).

Formed in 1983, MEGADETH is one of the true pioneers and innovators of metal music. The band has sold more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades, including 11 Grammy nominations and scoring five consecutive platinum albums — including 1992's two-million-selling "Countdown To Extinction". The band has released iconic albums such as "Peace Sells… But Who's Buying?", "Rust In Peace", "Countdown To Extinction" and "Th1rt3en". The list of classic songs penned by MEGADETH is long and varied, including essential tracks such as "Killing Is My Business (And Business Is Good)!", "Wake Up Dead", "In My Darkest Hour", "Holy Wars… The Punishment Is Due", "Symphony Of Destruction", "A Tout Le Monde", and many many more…

MEGADETH's founder, leader and primal guitar-slinger and lyricist Dave Mustaine is still a key creative force in the metal world. The band released its 14th studio album, "Super Collider", in 2013 through Mustaine's own Tradecraft label. MEGADETH is currently recording a new studio album, due for release in late 2015 or early 2016.

The term is oft overused, but Dave Mustaine is a bona-fide legend and the Metal Hammer Golden Gods is hugely honored to have him accept the Golden God Award in 2015.

"I am truly humbled to receive this award, and to be recognized by your peers for your accomplishments, is almost as gratifying as not being recognized by the police for your accomplices," said Dave Mustaine.

Added Alexander Milas, Metal Hammer editor-in-chief: "The Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards are a 21-gun salute to all that is great in our world. Dave Mustaine is nothing less than the living embodiment of dedication to the craft, and it's an absolute honor to celebrate 30 years of MEGADETH's earth-shaking debut with one of metal's greatest guitar heroes."
