MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE: 'I Made The Right Decision' Picking Bands For GIGANTOUR

July 10, 2005

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:

"I just got back, literally, from my time off in Europe and you can plan on things ramping up around here and over at the Gigantour site in the next week. We all are going to converge on San Diego for pre-production and then move it up to Fresno for the start of the tour a few days later. We have a festival that we are playing in Cadott Wisconsin on July 15th, but after that, and I mean right after that, we start pre-prod.

"There will be an interview this week with 'Rockline' and also Jackie at Indie 103 in LA. Don't worry, our beloved webmaster will be keeping everyone up to speed and it is time for y'all to really start looking out for press about our summer 'Taking back the Metal' tour.

"Whilst overseas I got to meet the guys in [LIFE OF AGONY] again, who I was very happy to see, as well as NEVERMORE's camp and I got to see both bands play for a bit. With your suggestions, and those of my agent and management, I made the right decision: both of these bands are amazing. I also got to see NAZARETH, talk to the geezers in SAXON, and my buddy Lemmy and MOTÖRHEAD, as well as Tommy Shaw from STYX (he's a little dude).

"I also met THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, who I must say seemed very intense (in a cool way),and was humbled when I found out as over the top those guys and their songs are, that they listened to MEGS when they were kids. I love this job. I really got a great feeling from everyone that I talked to, and during my stay in Puerto Banus I was listening to BOBAFLEX's last record with Justis. These guys are uberkewl and I respect a band with talent that doesn't take things so damned serious all the time.

"FEAR FACTORY will be joining me during the 'Rockline' interview, and I sense from Port [Mike Portnoy], the guys in SYMPHONY X, and DRY KILL LOGIC that we are all going to get on famously.

"Now, for the last bits of news: I asked my old buddy Scott Ian and ANTHRAX to come join Gigantour for the end of the dates, if/when DREAM THEATER leaves and they accepted. In a perfect world DREAM THEATER would be able to stay on, so keep yer dirty little fingers crossed. And there still is some grumblings about taking Gigantour away from North America. I am nearing the point where we can confirm this or pass, and if we do confirm this, no worries mates, you will be notified immediately!

"Stay tuned for updates on all of the ensuing press and radio shows to look out for, as well as new updates here and around Gigantour.com. And can I tell you how excited I am to take MEGS down to Buenos Aires again? I am on cloud 9 just thinking about it!!!!"
