MACHINE HEAD's DEMMEL Performs With SHINEDOWN In Berlin; Video Footage Available

July 27, 2009

MACHINE HEAD guitarist Phil Demmel joined the Jacksonville, Florida-based hard rock/post-grunge band SHINEDOWN on stage at Zitadelle in Berlin, Germany on June 8, 2009 to perform the song "Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide". Watch fan-filmed video footage of the appearance below.

As previously reported, Demmel collapsed on stage on Saturday (July 25) during MACHINE HEAD's set at the Sonisphere festival in Pori, Finland. Although Phil had to be helped off stage, he quickly regained consciousness and issued an apology to the fans "for cheating them of their last song." He told Team Sonisphere a short time later, "I feel I short-changed the fans and really want to make it up for them. Thanks for all the concern."

SHINEDOWN has released deluxe digital reissues of its first two albums, 2003's "Leave A Whisper" and 2005's "Us And Them", at iTunes and Amazon, along with a slew of bonus tracks for each. There are a total of 25 in all, with 13 on "Leave A Whisper" and a dozen on "Us And Them". Among the tracks are acoustic and live-in-the-studio versions of the band's biggest hits, along with demo versions of other songs, alternate mixes and other material. SHINEDOWN said in a statement, "We noticed people talking passionately about favorite songs that either had never been released or were released in limited ways. We thought it would be cool to make these songs available in their various stages of development. We want to give the hardcore fans something more to sink their teeth into since it's been a year since the release of (latest CD) 'The Sound of Madness'."

SHINEDOWN frontman Brent Smith told The Pulse of Radio in a conference call with reporters why he thinks his and other bands' songs hold such power for their fans. "The songs that you admire and the ones that make you, quite frankly, wake up in the morning, they're your story in a lot of ways," he said. "When you connect with a song, it's because inside that song, it means something very special and it's very poignant just for you."

SHINEDOWN's third album, "The Sound Of Madness", has been certified gold since coming out in June 2008. It has yielded the group's biggest hit yet, "Second Chance", which topped the rock charts and hit No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
