Legendary Band BETTY BLOWTORCH Honored With Tribute/Benefit Album

January 20, 2008

The legendary Los Angeles-based, all-female rock/punk band BETTY BLOWTORCH is the subject of an upcoming tribute album that will benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Created in memory of late BETTY BLOWTORCH frontwoman Bianca "Butthole" Halstead, the collection will feature bands from around the globe celebrating Bianca's life and music for a worthy cause.

BETTY BLOWTORCH was formed in 1998 by three members of the EMI Records act BUTT TRUMPET. After releasing the 2001 full-length "Are You Man Enough?", the group toured with NASHVILLE PUSSY. In December 2001, lead singer and bassist Bianca Butthole was killed in a car crash in New Orleans, which marked the end of the group. A collection of rarities and live performances, "Last Call", was released in 2003.

BETTY BLOWTORCH was the focus of Anthony Scarpa's critically acclaimed documentary film "Betty Blowtorch and Her True Life Adventures".

Scheduled for a late spring 2008 release, the "Betty Blowtorch Tribute Album" has received the full blessing and support of surviving BETTY BLOWTORCH members Blare N. Bitch, Sharon Needles and Judy Molish. In fact, Blare has officially signed on to perform on the album with her current band SUCKERSTAR.

The "Betty Blowtorch Tribute Album" is a joint effort between musician/author Joel Gausten and Milwaukee musician Sarah Mundane.

"Sarah and I first crossed paths on MySpace in early 2006," explains Gausten. "We obviously shared a great love for BETTY BLOWTORCH, and we got to talking one night about how great it would be for bands to cover BETTY BLOWTORCH as a tribute to Bianca. Before we knew it, we were brainstorming for this album. We felt that MySpace could be used to form a true union between bands and fans alike to do something truly positive and meaningful in memory of a wonderful musician who left us far too soon."
