Lawsuit Filed Over Canceled 'Rock 'N' Roll Allstars' Concert In Venezuela

June 25, 2012

According to the Courthouse News Service, Dallas attorney-turned-international concert promoter Gabe Reed of Gabe Reed Productions is being sued for $270,000 over a canceled stadium show in Caracas, Venezuela.

Evenpro Entertainment Holding claims that in March it agreed to pay Reed $270,000 for a two-hour concert by the Rock 'N' Roll Allstars, an 11-piece supergroup comprised of Gene Simmons of KISS, Joe Elliott of DEF LEPPARD, Ed Roland of COLLECTIVE SOUL, Matt Sorum, Gilby Clarke and Duff McKagan of GUNS N' ROSES, Steve Stevens of BILLY IDOL, Mike Inez of ALICE IN CHAINS, Sebastian Bach of SKID ROW and Glenn Hughes of DEEP PURPLE.

Gabe Reed Productions in April canceled Rock 'N' Roll Allstars shows in Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala and Venezuela, citing "the failure of the local promoters to comply with contractual obligations," and Evenpro claims it never got its $270,000 back.

Commenting on the lawsuit, Reed — who claims that the terms of the contract allowed his company to keep the money — told the Dallas Observer. "They breached the contract. We had every intention of doing the show, but when we weren't paid as agreed under the contract, then we had to do what we had to do."

Evenpro's attorney Michael Hurst told the Dallas Observer that he believes Reed will argue that Evenpro paid part of the deposit late. However, "We paid the full amount," Hurst said. "There was no reason why the concert should've or would've been canceled."

Evenpro seeks actual damages and prejudgment garnishment. It alleges breach of contract, money had and received, conversion, fraud, unjust enrichment and business disparagement.
