KORN Singer Says New Songs Are 'Heavy, With Some Funky Grooves Thrown In'

February 21, 2005

KORN fan site KornUnleashed.net has posted a transcript of an interview KORN frontman Jonathan Davis gave to the Huntsville, Alabama radio station Rocket 95.1 Sunday night (Feb. 20). Read on:

Rocket 95.1: Tonight we are joined by Jonathan Davis, lead singer of KORN once again. What's going on, Jon?

Jonathan Davis: "All kinds of stuff man, I've been real busy recording tracks and coming up with new material."

Rocket 95.1: How is the recording coming along?

Jonathan Davis: "Great, we got three tracks completed, and around seventeen or eighteen others that are still being worked on."

Rocket 95.1: So I hear you are working with producer Dallas Austin. What is it like to be working with him?

Jonathan Davis: "He is different from a lot of the other producers we've had. Back when we first started out it was mainly focusing on me, trying to get all the energy out of me. With 'Issues' and 'Untouchables' it was more of getting all the energy out of the rest of the band. Dallas is putting those two together, not focusing on just certain members of the band, there is no 'I' to him, he sees the band as a whole."

Rocket 95.1: What are the new songs sounding like?

Jonathan Davis: "They are heavy, with some funky grooves thrown in them. There is some screaming and some singing in there as well. I really like what we are doing."

Rocket 95.1: If you had to pick another KORN CD or CDs to compare this one to, which one(s) would it be?

Jonathan Davis: "That's a tough question, I would have to say 'Follow The Leader' and 'Issues'."

Rocket 95.1: When will the new CD be coming out?

Jonathan Davis: "It should be out around early summer. We'll see how it goes from here."

Rocket 95.1: You recently got married, tell me how that was.

Jonathan Davis: "[Laughs] Man, it was fucking great. We went out to Hawaii to get married, we just had a blast. I couldn't be any happier than I am right now."

Rocket 95.1: That's great to hear, I wish you the best of luck.

Jonathan Davis: "Thanks, man."

Rocket 95.1: Any plans for a summer tour?

Jonathan Davis: "Definitely, we will be doing a full American tour around summer, and we'll hit some places overseas as well."

Rocket 95.1: That's always good to hear, and we will keep our listeners up to date on that when dates are announced. So what's going on with your covers CD?

Jonathan Davis: "We are kind of putting that to the side right now and focusing on the new CD. But it will be a album with a bunch of songs that we grew up listening to and remaking them. It is a lot of fun to be able to play your favorite bands songs, brings back many memories."

Rocket 95.1: Sounds fun, before I let you go here, is there anything you would like to say to your fans out there listening?

Jonathan Davis: "I just want to say thank you so much for everything you've done. Words cannot describe how happy I am with you all, you're the world to me, and without you I would be nothing. Thank you."

Rocket 95.1: Alright man, it was great talking to you again. Good luck with the new CD, and keep us updated on any news.

Jonathan Davis: "I will, man. Thanks for having me on the show."
