KORN Guitarist: Why We Turned Down OZZFEST

March 31, 2006

Launch Radio Networks reports: With neither OZZY OSBOURNE nor BLACK SABBATH headlining Ozzfest on a full-time basis anymore, one of the groups rumored for the top slot on the bill this year was KORN. Guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer told Launch that the band did get that opportunity, but turned it down. "We did get an offer to do Ozzfest, but I don't remember, it fell through fast because we're wanting to do our own festival," he said. "You know, I think it's time for us to start making those plans for the future and it would've been just settling. It's just too easy just to — I mean, it's still cool, but for us right now, it's important for us to establish ourselves and our own fans."

KORN plays tonight (Friday, March 31) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The band has not yet announced any details about its summer tour plans.

The band's previous "festival"-type tour was the Family Values package, which it headlined in 1998 over RAMMSTEIN, LIMP BIZKIT and ICE CUBE.

METALLICA was also reportedly approached to headline this summer's Ozzfest, which begins on July 1 in San Francisco with SYSTEM OF A DOWN and DISTURBED co-headlining and OZZY OSBOURNE appearing on selected dates.
