KISS Guitarist Checks In From Chile

April 2, 2009

KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer has issued the following update:

"We arrived on the KISS private jet into beautiful Santiago, Chile this morning [Thursday, April 2]. The trip from Los Angeles to Chile usually takes some extra time because there are no commercial non-stop flights to Santiago. Our plan was to fly commercial to Miami and meet our own jet there for the flight straight down to Santiago.

"We'd been rehearsing for the [South American] tour all week in L.A., so we met at the American terminal at LAX Wednesday morning to catch our flight to Miami. Paul [Stanley] and I were there on time, but Gene [Simmons] had written his car pick-up time down wrong and wasn't going to make the flight, so the tour already hit a bump! I was surprised because that kind of stuff never happens with Gene. Eric [Singer] showed up late, but he was still on time to make the flight.

"Gene ended up taking a Lan Chile flight with our assistant road manager to Santiago via Lima. About four hours later, Paul, Eric, myself, Doc McGhee [KISS manager], Danny Francis (KISS security) and Mike, our tour manager, landed in Miami and were escorted to the private aviation terminal as they prepped the KISS jet with dinner, drinks and amenities for the flight south to Santiago.

"A great dinner followed our 10:30 p.m. departure from Miami for a two-hour, 45-minute flight to Panama City, where we had a short, 20-minute refuelling stop. In the air again, we all hunkered down for six hours of solid sleep as we jetted south to Santiago. Just at daybreak, we touched down into the Santiago sunshine.

"Today we're taking it easy because tomorrow (Friday) we start the South American leg of the KISS Alive 35 world tour at the sold-out Estadio Municipal de la Florida Stadium in Santiago, Chile."
