KALAS Calls It Quits

Oakland, California-based hard music quintet KALAS has split up.

KALAS (pronounced: KAH-LAAS) released its sole self-titled album earlier this year. It featured front man and legendary hard rock icon Matt Pike (SLEEP, HIGH ON FIRE) on vocals, Andy Branton (ECONOCHRIST, GRIMPLE, SAMIAM) and Paul Kott (CRUEVO, HIGH TONE SON OF A BITCH) on guitars, Scott Plumb (CRUEVO) on drums and bassist Brad Reynolds. Recorded at Nu Tone Studios (IGGY POP, GREEN DAY, DILLINGER FOUR) in January 2006, "Kalas" was said to "mold the minor key, melodic, thick and heavy riffs of '90s-era Oakland crust into a new, angular rock mutation."
