IN THIS MOMENT's MARIA BRINK Says 'Black Widow' Lyrics Are 'Mostly' Based On Her Personal Experiences

December 9, 2014

Berlin Metal TV recently conducted an interview with IN THIS MOMENT vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth. You can now watch the chat below.

Speaking about IN THIS MOMENT's new album, "Black Widow", Brink said: "It's our fifth album, and I think it's definitely our most album thus far that I think really describes who we are with how diverse it is and all the valleys and peaks in it. It's kind of a metaphorical-type album about a woman, or a girl, who is innocent and through life and experience becomes kind of... loses her innocence and has it tooken [sic] away and becomes kind of infected and then her transition out of that into more of this in control and in power and no longer is the person having anything took [sic] away. She's stronger, more confident [and] in charge."

Asked to what extent the lyrics on "Black Widow" are autobiographical, Brink said: "It's usually mostly about my personal experiences. I just like to put into a metaphorical-type way. 'Cause I always have to write from personal things just so I can make sure that I'm connected to it, 'cause I think that's the magic in music. You have to make sure that I feel it, 'cause if I feel it, then other people feel it. So I think if you lack that emotional connection, then you lose that magic. So it is all in my experiences, but trying to do 'em in different… with using my imagination."

"Black Widow" sold around 36,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 8 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores on November 17.

IN THIS MOMENT's previous CD, "Blood", opened with around 20,000 copies back in August 2012 to debut at No. 15.

The band's 2010 effort, "A Star-Crossed Wasteland", registered a first-week tally of 10,500 to enter the chart at No. 40.

IN THIS MOMENT's sophomore effort, "The Dream", sold more than 8,000 copies back in its first week of release in October 2008 to land at No. 70.

"Black Widow" was once again helmed by Kevin Churko (OZZY OSBOURNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, HELLYEAH, PAPA ROACH) at his The Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas, Nevada.

IN THIS MOMENT last year inked a new deal with Atlantic Records, a division of Warner Music Group, following the completion of its contract with Century Media Records.

IN THIS MOMENT released all four of its previous studio efforts through Century Media, including "Blood".
