Greek Metal Musicians To Pay Tribute To RONNIE JAMES DIO At Special Concert
ROCK'N'ROLL CHILDREN — featuring Greek metal musicians Yiannis Papanikolaou (vocals; ex-INNERWISH, ex-BATTLEROAR), Yiannis Tsimas (bass; DEXTER WARD), George Georgiou (keyboards; INNERWISH, FORTRESS, UNDER SIEGE), Nikos Anastasiadis (drums; DREAM WEAVER), Manolis Tsigkos (guitar; INNERWISH) — will perform at a tribute concert to Ronnie James Dio on May 15 at Kittaro club in Athens, Greece marking the one-year anniversary of the legendary singer's passing. They will perform classics songs from Dio's entire career and will be joined by 16 of the most famous and best active Greek vocalists for an all-star jam. Proceeds from the concert will go to a newly established pediatric tumor hospital.
Dio died of stomach cancer on the morning of May 16, 2010 at the age of 67.
He was renowned throughout the world as one of the greatest and most influential vocalists in heavy metal history.
The singer, who was recording and touring with SABBATH offshoot HEAVEN & HELL prior to his illness, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2009. He underwent chemotherapy and made what is now his final public appearance in April 2010 at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles.
