Former TESTAMENT Axeman To Teach At AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF GUITAR

August 31, 2003

Former TESTAMENT/SAVATAGE guitarist Alex Skolnick has joined the distinguished faculty of New York's premier guitar school, American Institute Of Guitar (AIG). Alex will be teaching the Jazz Soloing Workshop this fall. "Learn the essential scales, arpeggios and techniques of jazz soloing," reads a post on Skolnick's web site. "Hands-on with lots of playing. In addition, Alex will focus on practice techniques, finding your own identity on your instrument, overcoming obstacles, developing good habits, setting goals and furthering the enjoyment and progress of playing, listening to and study of music. Techniques can be applied to all styles, and one needn't consider themselves a 'jazz guitarist' to attend, although an openness to jazz is important. A must for anyone wishing to expand their horizons. Enroll now to reserve your spot!" The course will last 10 weeks, and classes will be held on Tuesdays 6:30-8:00 p.m. beginning September 16. Price: $325. For more information, call 212-757-3255 or visit www.aiguitar.com.

In other news, Skolnick's jazz combo jazz combo THE ALEX SKOLNICK TRIO recently parted ways with bassist John G. Davis. "John has let us know that he has decided to devote all his time and energy to his rock project SIMPULIFE (influences include RADIOHEAD, U2),indicating that all members of that band have decided to leave their jobs and other projects," Alex writes on his web site. "He's mentioned that he values us as friends and musicians but feels that the time has come to put 100% into making the rock band thing work. He may decide to play jazz again and if so, will hope to return to the trio if the position should open again.

"Needless to say, this has thrown us for a bit of a loop. We are sorry to hear this but respect him and wish him the best of luck. His replacement for Guitarevolution [tour, also featuring ex-MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman and ex-MEGADETH/DAMN THE MACHINE guitarist Chris Poland] will be Nathan Peck, longtime friend of drummer Matt Zebroski and fellow Pittsburgh native, a truly slamming bassist. A permanent replacement will be announced when the time is right."
