Former SARCÓFAGO Frontman Shoots Down Reunion Rumors

March 6, 2009

Wagner "Antichrist" Lamounier, former vocalist for the long-defunct Brazilian cult '80s black/death metal band SARCÓFAGO, has shot down Internet reports that the group will reunite for select dates in July, August, September and October.

Speaking to Solada and Imhotep's Thiago Sarkis, Lamounier — who has Bachelor of Science and PhD degrees in economy and currently works as a teacher at one of the most respected universities in Brazil — vehemently denied that there are any plans for SARCÓFAGO to reform, explaining that the "leaked" tour dates would conflict with the academic year of the institution where he gives lectures. Wagner, who was the original singer in SEPULTURA (before Max Cavalera took over the lead vocals),also said that he still has plans to play the occasional show with his hardcore band KOMANDO KAOS.

Formed in 1985 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, SARCÓFAGO (Portuguese for "sarcophagus") has been described as one of Brazil's most controversial metal bands ever. The front cover of the group's debut album, "I.N.R.I." (1987),was an early influence on black metal's image, especially with respect to the corpsepaint-style makeup.

More information (in Portuguese) is available at the Solada web site.
