Former FORBIDDEN Guitarist Explains 'Illusion Of Freedom' Comment

January 12, 2005

Former FORBIDDEN/MANMADEGOD and current SPIRALARMS guitarist Craig Locicero has posted the following message in the "Guestbook" section of SPIRALARMS' official web site:

"Well, well, I got a call [on Sunday, January 9] to go check out the Blabbermouth site and see how much people were upset with my opinions [see previous BLABBERMOUTH.NET story here], and what a ass I am for saying anything. While I am not happy they are so angry, I am encouraged with the passion in their beliefs. With the comment 'the illusion of freedom' as the chosen headline, this single post really hit the fan. I feel I need to further explain to the best of my ability.

"There is no doubt that America is the last greatest place for 'most people' on the planet to live out the American Dream if they are lucky enough to be born here or get the citizenship they always dreamed about, but nobody can convince me that it is the all-be-it key to further human growth.

"I don't want to make some people sick, but I believe that the greed and material world is the most imprisoning one subconsciously. We become so wrapped up in the illusions like the price of oil day to day, for example, being as seemingly crucial as they are, that it stunts our growth as humanity. This is not a 'sliced bread' opinion, and it is not one only shared by just myself. In fact, I have done much research and soul searching for about half of my life, and you can't just put this one in the 'kook file' all nice and neat.

"This issue is just the tip of the iceburg as far as I'm concerned and we need to debate it now or never!!! Quick, while we still have that warm and fuzzy feeling we call freedom. Even if it's only freedom to bitch, and not actually freedom to make changes in our system. But, in California we have the freedom to 'Amend Arnold!!!' How great is that kids?

"Actually this is no joke, most people are waking up, but they are intimidated by the by the scope of it all. I am to. But I don't have the answers, just more questions like 'Where did all the great leaders go?' — 'Were there ever any...really?' We need a few right now to rectify the Big Business rule that is so dominant here in the 21st century. Good luck, it takes deep-rooted ties to ever get the chance to be one.
I'll know there are so many bright young minds out there that want a chance to make things truly better with all the right intentions, to be a part of the solution and not the problem. Help those kids out, don't bash them down with all that negative 'just be happy and God Bless the USA and only the USA' bullshit. What a cop-out, how closed minded would we be to not question authority when it needs to be questioned. Motives speak volumes and read between the lies (thanks, SLAYER)!

"Well, I guess I'm about to be verbally crucified for saying something out loud I've been writing about for years. Oh ye, all of you 'FORBIDDEN or it's crap' friends of mine, you should know me by now. This is real to me, and important for a lot more reasons than can be generalized in these words, but I'm trying to finally be true to myself all the way around.

"Say what you will because that's possibly the only thing we can do with all of the 'go along with it-sheep ba ba balking at' what they subliminally know to be true. We're all on the same team, just not the same page, yet..."
