FOREIGNER's KELLY HANSEN To Turn Up Heat in Hot-Blooded Asphalt Chef Competition

November 2, 2010

FOREIGNER lead vocalist Kelly Hansen is fired up and ready to tackle Food Channel masters Mario Batali and Guy Fieri as he pairs with Texas top chef Tim Love in the Asphalt Chef culinary shootout during the AAA Texas 500 NASCAR weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway on November 6.

Rocker food dude Hansen, known for fronting the legendary rock band FOREIGNER with mega-hits that include "Hot Blooded" and "Feels Like the First Time", goes head-to-head against celebrity chefs at the Texas Motor Speedway's Lone Star Tower Clubhouse in a culinary war to benefit Speedway Children's Charities and the Mario Batali Foundation. The Asphalt Chef pairings include Hansen with Western urban cuisine pioneer and restaurateur Tim Love, Batali with four-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champ Jimmie Johnson, and Fieri with 2004 Sprint Cup Series champ Kurt Busch. ABC-TV/ESPN NASCAR pit reporter Dave Burns will offer play-by-play commentary for the event.

"We'll pump up a win and beat the chops off of Batali and Fieri," taunts Hansen, whose gastronomic skills appear to be as red-hot as his gale-force vocal talents. During the Asphalt Chef event, Hansen will be joined by FOREIGNER bandmate Jeff Pilson for an acoustic set of FOREIGNER songs, and then will perform the national anthem prior to the November 7 AAA Texas 500 for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.

Asphalt Chef competitors will wage gladiator combat at the grill, and race the clock to create dazzling dishes concocted with a secret ingredient selected by fans and unveiled at the last moment. Hansen, who draws in classic rock masses with raucous renditions of FOREIGNER's classics and fresh new material like "Can't Slow Down", says he's ready to rock out a cooking win. Victor at the Asphalt Chef stadium will take home a Batali peppermill trophy and $5,000 to the winner's designated charity.

Tickets for the Asphalt Chef evening, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and includes live and silent auctions showcasing items from the chefs, drivers and sponsors of the event, are $250.
