EXTOL Split With Guitarists ESPEVOLL And BORUD

May 17, 2004

Norwegian progressive thrash/death metallers EXTOL have parted ways with guitarists Christer Espevoll and Ole Borud.

Commented vocalist Peter Espevoll: "My brother (Christer) and Ole decided to leave the band a couple of months ago. At first it came as a shock, although we understand their reasons for leaving, but still it was sad to lose two great bandmembers, one just after the other. After 10 years of playing we reached a point where we could try to bring the band to the next level, but neither Christer nor Ole felt they could make the commitment it required so instead now, they invest their time and energy elsewhere, with our blessing of course."

Added drummer David Husvik: "Yeah, I mean, their parting was at one point very sad for obvious reasons, but there was never any hard feelings or ill will between any of us through the process. We are still the best of friends, and that's a good thing really. We wish them all the best, and I know they wish the same for us."

Despite the lineup changes, EXTOL claim to have become stronger through the ordeal. Asked "whatever will come of the mighty EXTOL," David replied, "We have already sought out new members to replace Ole and Christer, and we will make an official statement of who they are later in July. I am confident that this new unit of ours will deliver, and we are rehearsing material for our next album as we speak. The new stuff is in many ways extraordinary!"

Added bassist John Robert Mjaland: "The idea is to enter the studio late summer, and release the album later this year, so right now we are just working like mad to make all the loose ends meet. We are also planning some extensive touring through Europe and the States to support the release, so these are exciting times indeed!"

EXTOL will perform two more shows scheduled with the "Synergy" lineup, both of which will take place in the group's home country. The details are as follows:

May 29 - Notodden, Studentkroa, NOR - Motstøy Festival
Jul. 03 – Risøya, NOR -Seaside Festival
