Ex-VOIVOD Bassist BLACKY: I Have No Interest In Joining Another Metal Band

November 19, 2002

Former VOIVOD bassist Jean-Yves Thériault (a.k.a. Blacky) had an amazing time performing with the Quebec-based "all-star" thrash metal tribute band BLACK CLOUD at Thrashback Festival in Montreal on Nov. 9. "Man that was so fun, almost too much [so]," Blacky told Voivodfan.com. "Perhaps I will start a new band! (laughs) It was very cool to play old thrash songs, and most of all playing with musicians that are very talented but haven't got huge egos. At first I had some difficulty because of the excitement I suppose, I started a little too hard, after a few songs I finally realized that I could slow down a little and just let the groove take over."

Despite his overwhelmingly positive experience at Thrashback, Blacky appears to have no interest in linking up with another metal band in the near future. "There are certainly a few projects that I'm interested in, but as far as the metal scene, I prefer to let the new and younger musicians take it over. I'll stick with what I know best, knowing when to stop."
