EVANESCENCE Singer: 'There's Been A Lot Of Writing Going On This Summer'

August 13, 2009

EVANESCENCE frontwoman Amy Lee has issued the following update:

"There's been a lot of writing going on this summer and I'm starting to get really excited. My good friend Will happens to also be a great producer, writer and programmer (lucky for me!) and we've been slaving away at some pretty interesting stuff lately… I'm not giving anything away just yet.

"Terry [Balsamo, EVANESCENCE guitarist] and I have been working together this week at my place, just like old times, and life is pretty good.

"I have a little surprise for you that I can't spill just yet, but it's coming soon and I can't wait. I will let you know as soon as I'm allowed to!"

Lee released a statement in June in response to media reports surrounding the announcement that the band's former guitarist/songwriter Ben Moody had launched a new project called WE ARE THE FALLEN. Lee wrote at the time, "There's some pretty weird stuff flying around right now and I'd like to clear up some confusion in the press.

"As our fans already know, Ben Moody left EVANESCENCE in 2003. EVANESCENCE came out with a follow-up to 'Fallen' in 2006. It was called 'The Open Door' and it debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and reached platinum status in just over a month. 'The Open Door' has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.

"We're currently working on new material that I'm extremely excited about. I believe that to make great music you have to give yourself the freedom to evolve. I don't see the point in making the same record twice, so I always want to challenge myself to make something better, stronger, and more interesting than before. That takes time, but it's worth the wait for me. Hopefully, it will be for the fans too.

"Look out for new music next year..."

In addition to Moody, WE ARE THE FALLEN features fellow ex-EVANESCENCE bandmates John LeCompt (guitar) and Rocky Gray (drums) alongside "American Idol" runner-up Carly Smithson and bassist Marty O'Brien, whose recording and touring credits include DISTURBED, KELLY CLARKSON, STATIC-X, METHODS OF MAYHEM and TOMMY LEE.

Moody left EVANESCENCE shortly after "Fallen", citing creative differences with Amy Lee. LeCompt and Gray followed in 2007.
