EGYPT CENTRAL Added To OZZFEST Dates

June 28, 2007

Memphis, TN-based band EGYPT CENTRAL has been added to the second-stage Ozzfest 2007 lineup for the following dates:

Aug. 02 - Dallas, TX @ Smirnoff Music Center
Aug. 04 - Selma, TX @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
Aug. 06 - St. Louis, MO @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
Aug. 08 - Columbus, OH @ Germain Amphitheatre

EGYPT CENTRAL was formed in 2001 by vocalist John Falls. After generating buzz in their hometown of Memphis, the band caught the attention of former Lava Records CEO Jason Flom. Impressed with their demo, he immediately offered the band a record deal after seeing their live performance. Their debut album was recorded with renowned producer Josh Abraham in Los Angeles. The band was dropped by Lava in April 2005, and due to a shakeup within the company the album was never released.

Due to overwhelming demand, the band self-released its Lava-recorded album online through independent retailer CD Baby, and at selected music stores throughout Memphis. The CD debuted at #1 for independent releases in Memphis, going on to sell nearly 7,000 copies within several months. In some music stores, the album outsold new releases by COLDPLAY and THE WHITE STRIPES.

On April 1, 2006, the band signed a deal with independent label, Bieler Bros. Records, with the intention of releasing the band's Lava album. However, in late July, it was announced that the band had parted ways with the label. No reason was given, but the band stated that "it was a simple decision made in the best interest of both parties".
