DIO: 'Master Of The Moon' Artwork Posted Online

July 14, 2004

The cover artwork for the new DIO album, "Master of the Moon", has been posted online at Black-Sabbath.com. Check it out here (click on image for larger view).

The "Master of the Moon" artwork was conceived by illustrator Marc Sasso, who has done album covers for MORBID ANGEL, CRYONIC TEMPLE, ROB ROCK, HARD ECHO and CAGE. Marc is the only artist to have done two DIO covers.

Ronnie James Dio recently spoke to ElectricBasement.com about how the artwork for 2002's "Killing the Dragon" and the new album came together.

"I usually have an idea of what I want. Usually the title of the album leads me to that point anyway," he said. " 'Killing the Dragon' wasn't very difficult for me. I wanted that to be exactly what it looked like. In that case Marc just translated my ideas but with some of his own vision as well. I think the same is true of this [new cover] in that it is very DIO-esque and kind of hideous at times. Let me put it this way, it is something that will look really good on a t-shirt, because you have to think of that too. So I told Marc what I wanted. I wanted this kind of an attitude. He came up with a figure that was great and it incorporated what I wanted that figure to do and within the context of the song title. The good thing about Marc is that he has ideas of his own. He's really able to understand what I'm trying to interpret to him. It was the same thing. I had ideas for it and he came up with some wonderful things around it and I'm very pleased with it."

Look for the new DIO CD, "Master of the Moon", to be released August 30 in Europe through SPV Records. A U.S. release date through Sanctuary Records has yet to be announced. The follow-up to 2002's "Killing the Dragon" was recorded at a Los Angeles studio and features lyrics that are "cynical" and "political", with the music being a mixture of up-tempo and doomy tracks, according to frontman Ronnie James Dio. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include:

01. Master Of The Moon
02. Death By Love
03. I Am
04. The End Of The World
05. One More From The Road
06. Shivers
07. In Dreams
08. The Man Who Would Be King
09. Living A Lie
10. The Eyes

A U.S. tour is expected to kick off on Sept. 23 in Detroit.
