DENIAL OF GOD Singer Discusses Band's Future

October 13, 2004

Ustumallagam, vocalist of the Danish "black horror metal" act DENIAL OF GOD, recently spoke to the Damned In Black webzine about the group's upcoming plans. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:

Damned In Black: Could you please start off by telling us what's been up with your band recently?

Ustumallagam: "Everything has been lying a bit still for some time, but it's not like nothing has been going on. We have finished writing the 'The Horrors of Satan' album and also other things have been planned. For example soon two new t-shirt designs will be released by Apocalyptor Records in Australia and also Painkiller Records (Belgium) will re-release the first two mini albums as they were originally supposed to be like. Besides this there is so much more planned like some split 7" EPs and other stuff. Not to forget we of course also have been working on newer songs again too (and even made simple demos — not for sale — for two new songs). We actually have been productive even if it may not seem so."

Damned In Black: This has probably been asked a lot, but here it goes: why are most of your releases vinyls only? Do you have something against CDs or is it just a matter of taste?

Ustumallagam: "Well, I have nothing against CDs, but we all prefer vinyl as the sound and look is so much more alive so to say. CDs are small, sterile and boring, whereas vinyls are big, interesting and warm sounding if I can say so. To take an example; take IRON MAIDEN's 'Somewhere in Time' album and compare the LP to the CD cover. Putting such a great cover into such a little jewel case is a crime! We are all fanatic vinyl collectors and I guess it has to do with that. And of course this also has to do with the fact that many of our releases are 7" EPs and you don't put them on CD (two songs only). We also plan to keep on releasing everything on vinyl too in the future. For example the album will come on vinyl in a very nice looking gatefold LP cover in a limited edition and on CD it will be unlimited. Just wait and see. The cover will be unique, I think."
