DEEP PURPLE Guitarist's Siberia Tales

October 15, 2004

DEEP PURPLE are in the middle of a major Russian tour (14 dates plus three in Ukraine). Guitarist Steve Morse took some time off and wrote a few lines about the tour in Siberia, Russia. Here are a few excerpts:

"Our first gig in Siberia went excellent. I love these people. Even the guy that squeezed my hand so hard, I was sure there were 2 fingers missing before I could count them all. They've had a hard life in many ways, but they totally support the arts, and put their heart and soul into everything musical."

"It's still like the wild West out here, except it's the wild East. People are still very nice, though. We saw a three-hour line of cars waiting to get into Vladivostok, which is about what the difference was between our arrival with police escort and the luggage, without escort."

"Gigs have gone very well. All sold out, and very attentive audiences, who are also willing to be quiet in the occasional mellow moment."
