DAVE MUSTAINE On RICK SANTORUM, Being A 'Birther' And Singing About Politics (Video)

March 26, 2012

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine will be the featured guest on tonight's (Monday, March 26) edition of "George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight" (formerly "The Hour"). The program, which airs at 11:00 p.m. on CBC in Canada, is hosted by Canadian television and radio personality George Stroumboulopoulos and is taped at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in front of a live studio audience.

A couple of preview clips from tonight's "George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight" episode can be seen below.

On which political party he votes for and supports: Democratic or Republican:

Mustaine: "I'm kind of a vote-for the-lesser-of-two-evils kind of guy.

"It's such a disappointment watching what's happening right now. 'Cause [billionaire investor and progressive philanthropist] George Soros came out and said that [Republican presidential front-runner] Mitt Romney is just like Obama. So, I mean, what [have] you got there? You've got Obama's mentor saying that Mitt Romney's like him and he's leading the polls now. And Newt Gingrich, who's just so completely angry right now that he's just sputtering. To me, the guy that makes the most sense out of all those guys is Rick Santorum. He just looked like he could be a really cool president — kind of like a JFK kind of guy."

On whether he is a "birther" (someone who questions Obama's U.S. citizenship or has displayed a lack of willingness to acknowledge it):

Mustaine: "I have a lot of questions about [Obama], but certainly not where he was born. I know he was born somewhere else than America. . . I'm not calling a question to it, I just… How come he was invisible until he became whatever he was in Illinois?"

On whether he, as he gets older, works his voice into his songs/art:

Mustaine: "Yeah, I do. There's a song called 'We The People' on [the latest MEGADETH album, 'TH1RT3EN'] that completely explains what's going on. When you watch people have their savings stripped away and Wall Street run amok and all of these bailouts... Five hundred million dollars given to [failed solar energy company] Solyndra when the Obama administration knew that it was going under. I think Jefferson was the guy that said that when the government becomes more powerful than the people, we're gonna be in trouble."
