CARDBOARD VAMPYRES Play First New York Show

June 25, 2004

The CARDBOARD VAMPYRES, the new "covers" band featuring former ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell and ex-THE CULT guitarist Billy Duffy, played their first New York show yesterday (June 24) as part of a private event for JVC Electronics. Cantrell told Launch that for Duffy and himself, the VAMPYRES bring back the feeling of just playing music for fun. ["It's really a blast revisiting that type of headspace, you know, 'cause it's really not about anything other than the pure joy of rockin' the tune, you know," he said. "And both of us have been very lucky, you know. We've put a lot of hard work to get where we've gotten with our respective bands, and sometimes when it gets to that level, it becomes quite a different thing. It's an all-encompassing thing that forces you to learn to wear many hats."

The CARDBOARD VAMPYRES, who also include former MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman John Corabi, play songs from both ALICE IN CHAINS and THE CULT, as well as covers of tunes by artists like BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, METALLICA, and others. Their New York set, which included an appearance by guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter of THE DOOBIE BROTHERS, included:

"Hole In The Sky" (BLACK SABBATH)
"Given The Dog A Bone" (AC/DC)
"Squeeze Box" (THE WHO)
"Rock And Roll" (LED ZEPPELIN)
"Would?" (ALICE IN CHAINS)
"Wild Flower" (THE CULT)
"Seek And Destroy" (METALLICA)
"Man In The Box" (ALICE IN CHAINS)
"Love Removal Machine" (THE CULT)
"Brain Damage" (PINK FLOYD)

As of yet, there are no plans for the group to write or record any original
material. Cantrell is currently writing his third solo album. Upcoming CARDBOARD VAMPYRES dates include:

July 10 - Justin, TX - Texas Lil's Dude Ranch
July 16 - West Hollywood, CA - Roxy Theatre
Aug. 14 - Oklahoma City, OK - Zoo Amphitheatre (w/ ZZ TOP)
Sep. 11 - Austin, TX - Carlos 'N Charlie's Bar & Grill
