BUCKCHERRY Guitarist Talks Band's Contribution To 'Avengers' Soundtrack

May 7, 2012

"Wherever I Go", a brand new song from California rockers BUCKCHERRY, appears on the soundtrack to this year's highly anticipated movie, "Marvel's The Avengers". "Wherever I Go" is included on "Avengers Assemble", a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the film. "Avengers Assemble" was released on May 1.

Speaking to ARTISTdirect, BUCKCHERRY guitarist Keith Nelson stated about how "Wherever I Go" came about, "We basically had the opportunity to be a part of the movie. We understand and appreciate the size and weight of having a song as part of a soundtrack. When we were approached, we were actually in writing mode for [the new BUCKCHERRY album] 'Confessions'. We'd been working on a few ideas, and Stevie had this riff that seemed appropriate. We had just started writing 'Wherever I Go' and thought it would be a good candidate for 'The Avengers' so we finished it with that in mind."

When asked if "Wherever I Go" was originally going to be included on the upcoming BUCKCHERRY album, "Confessions", Nelson said, "It was early enough in the process that we weren't really sure. We had spoken about the idea of the record and had written a few songs. We were just trying to write the best songs we could because we were in writing mode without any real concept in mind lyrically. Early on, there were a lot of songs we'd written that don't thematically fit into the record. We were simply writing, and that's when this song came about. As we continued down the path and got more and more focused on what our outcome was, then everything started to sharpen up towards the goal of the record."

In addition to BUCKCHERRY's "Wherever I Go", the "Avengers Assemble" collection features original songs inspired by the exciting and action-packed film event. The diverse range of artists includes SOUNDGARDEN, RISE AGAINST, SHINEDOWN, BUSH and REDLIGHT KING.

BUCKCHERRY's sixth studio album, "Confessions", will arrive sometime in September. The group is also planning to release a short film in conjunction with the CD, which it hopes will make its way into some small film festivals. The record itself will serve as the soundtrack for the film. Singer Josh Todd, who wrote the screenplay, told an Oklahoma radio station, "It's based around the seven sins and true events that happened in my life as well, when I was younger."

Todd, however, shot down the idea of playing the lead role in the film, although he did say that the band will appear somewhere in it.

He added, "I think (the film is) gonna be a real treat for people who love this band and people who are just discovering BUCKCHERRY for the first time."

As for "Confessions", Todd said that the new disc is "definitely a heavier, musically, record than we've ever had, and more melodic. It's pretty intense, but everybody's gonna love it. It's quintessential BUCKCHERRY at the end of the day."
