Behind The Scenes With CHICKENFOOT In London

CHICKENFOOT, hard rock's newest supergroup, recently completed its first European tour, and Rolling Stone's Rock Daily has exclusive footage from behind the scenes as ex-VAN HALEN vets Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith invaded London for a sold-out concert at the city's Shepherd's Bush. CHICKENFOOT was forced to cancel its sold-out shows in Hamburg (Große Freiheit, July 7) and Copenhagen (Vega, July 8) after Smith aggravated an old injury that had not healed while playing the Olympia in Paris. In addition, Smith is suffering from a tear of various tendons in the shoulder and upper arm/biceps.

In a recent interview with Noisecreep, Anthony said that Smith was "doing great" after a stint with therapy and even a moment in a hyperbaric chamber to heal a torn ligament in his bicep.

"Everyone's so concerned about Chad," Anthony said jokingly. "Chad's actually doing great. What happened was, we were playing a show in Paris, and he irritated an old injury that he never rehabbed correctly. That's what we do. When you feel fine, rehab's over and you feel like you're OK.

"He had a little bit of a torn ligament area in one of his biceps. But we had a few days off over in Europe. He did some rehab now he's hopefully he's resting for the couple weeks we have off now. But his arm is fine. We finished up the last few shows there and he was doing great."

He added, "We didn't want to risk anything over here in the States. We'll make it back over there and make it up to them. The important thing is we get Chad's arm better. He probably won't tell anybody this but he actually went to London and was doing some of the Michael Jackson hyperbaric chamber sessions. It must have helped him out great. We had a couple big festivals last weekend and he said his arm felt fine."

CHICKENFOOT's self-titled debut album has sold 247,000 copies in the United States since its June 5 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The LP is packaged in heat-sensitive artwork, which means when you put your hand on the CD inlay, photos of the band members are revealed behind the CHICKENFOOT band logo.

The band will launch its first major North American tour on August 2 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, finishing up on September 27 in Universal City, California.
