ANATHEMA have officially confirmed the departure of bassist Dave Pybus, who is currently touring in US as a session bassist for CRADLE OF FILTH. According to the band's official web site, Dave's departure won't have any effect on the release of ANATHEMA's brand new studio album, A Fine Day to Exit, which is scheduled to be issued on September 11th through Music For Nations in Europe and Koch Records in North America. No replacement for Dave has yet been announced.


According to Sepultribe, SEPULTURA vocalist Derrick Green will soon release a “movie” filmed on the road, featuring footage shot during the last three years—from the beginning of the Against touring cycle onwards—through as-yet-undisclosed outlets. The entire movie, which is entitled Tribus, will reportedly feature SEPULTURA music and show tour life as well as plenty of behind-the-scenes footage. A short “teaser” for the upcoming movie can be viewed at this location.


H.I.M.'s “Pretending”, the first single off the Finnish rock act's upcoming Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights CD, has now been certified gold in the group's home country.


Former DRAIN STH guitarist Flavia Canel has surfaced in a brand new band called ANOTHERDAY and is presently preparing to embark on a short East Coast tour with the group. The confirmed dates so far are as follows:

REVEILLE will be shooting a video for their single, “What You Got”, off the group's forthcoming Bleed The Sky CD, on Friday, July 20th in the Boston area.


Germany's AFM RECORDS have inked deals with AT VANCE and TANKARD. AT VANCE are presently writing the material to their forthcoming studio album, tentatively titled Only Human, which is due to emerge in 2002, while TANKARD are preparing to release a brand new studio album in May 2002, in time for the band's 20-year anniversary.


Cult heroes MASTERS OF REALITY, featuring singer/guitarist/producer Chris Goss, will be issuing their third studio album, Deep In The Hole, in September via Mascot/Brownhouse Records in Europe.  The record is rumored to be the band's heaviest since their highly acclaimed self-titled 1988 debut, also referred to as Blue Garden, and features a number of high profile guests, namely:

In related news, Goss is also part of the latest Desert Sessions disc, which was recorded at Fred Drake's world-famous Rancho de la Luna in Joshua Tree.  Joining Goss and mainman Josh Homme on the album are Samantha Maloney (HOLE, MOTLEY CRUE),Mark Lanegan, ELEVEN's Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider, and Brendon McNichol (MASTERS OF REALITY).

And finally, QUEENS OF THE STONE have started tracking their forthcoming album, Songs for the Deaf, with producer Eric Valentine.  In addition, Homme and bassist/vocalist Nick Oliveri, along with Brad Wilk of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, have added the music to the film The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, starring Jodie Foster.


An “edit” of MOTLEY CRUE's concert DVD, Lewd, Crued & Tattooed, will premiere this Friday on VH1 at 10:00 PM eastern/pacific (7:00 PM if you have DirecTV).


Despite previous reports to the contrary, the as-yet-untitled band founded by former RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE members Tom Morello, Brad Wilk, and Tim Commerford and ex-SOUNDGARDEN frontman Chris Cornell will not have its debut CD issued on November 6th. According Allstar, a spokesperson for the band at Epic Records and a representative at Q Prime, the management company for the RAGE portion of the band, have both confirmed that the album is still not finished and has not yet been scheduled for release. As of late May, the quartet had completed writing over 20 tunes and are currently in the studio recording them with producer Rick Rubin.


PEARL JAM guitarist Stone Gossard's solo debut album, Bayleaf, is set for a September 11th release through Epic Records. The first solo effort from a PEARL JAM member to find its way into the record store racks, Bayleaf features Gossard singing lead on seven of the 10 tracks, while former GREEN APPLE QUICK STEP frontman Ty Willman handles the vocal duties on the other three. Also performing on Bay Leaf are siinger/songwriter Pete Droge, former PEARL JAM drummer Matt Chamberlain, pianist Ron Weinstein, drummer Mike Stone, and bassist Guy Davis.


Former MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland will have his Chasing the Sun CD released in Europe in July on Mascot Records. Three exclusive tracks will be added to the European version that were not included on the American CD: "Sandcastles", "Terra Incognita", and "DaVinci".


CARBON 9 is in a Hollywood studio working on their second CD with co-producer Tom Fletcher.


FEAR FACTORY drummer Raymond Herrera on the group's upcoming DVD, as reported by Canada's Chart Attack: “We're working on that now. Our management and us are kind of getting people to send in old videos — well anything really that is significant that we might be able to use. We want to release it in time for Christmas of this year.

 

"We obviously have our own footage. We just want to see what we can get from people out there. There might be some really cool stuff. Generally, we're looking for some stuff from '93, '94 and '95. When we toured with SEPULTURA, OBITUARY or in Europe. There have been a lot of kids that come out and say 'Hey, I'll film the show tonight and then send it to ya.' It's like, 'No.' We want older stuff. We want stuff from a fan perspective."

Sweden's DEBASE will be shooting an upcoming video, entitled “Stoneage 2K”, starting Sunday, July 15th at secret underground location in Malmoe – West. DEBASE recently issued their Domination CD through Denmark's Kick Music Records.


German power metallers EDGUY will release their Mandrake album on September 24th. On August 21st, however, EDGUY will issue a four-track EP entitled Painting On The Wall, featuring two versions of the mid-tempo title track, “some faster album stuff” and a new recording of the song "Wings Of A Dream". In other EDGUY news, the band is due to embark on their first headlining world tour in October/November, with the European portion of the trek set to include BLAZE (featuring former IRON MAIDEN singer Blaze Bayley) in the opening slot. 


The UK's VEX RED are due to release an as-yet-unspecified single, the first off the group's Ross Robinson-produced Start With A Strong And Persistent Desire, in the next two months. In the meantime, the band has announced several headlining shows during July and August. The dates are as follows:
