Produced by Scott Humphrey (who worked with ZOMBIE on 1998's Hellbilly Deluxe),The Sinister Urge is due to be released through Geffen Records on October 30th. As previously reported, ROB ZOMBIE will partake in the Black Christmas tour at the end of the year on a bill that is also set to feature OZZY OSBOURNE and several other acts, including possibly MARILYN MANSON and DISTURBED, if the current rumors are to be believed.

Former NIRVANA bassist Krist Novoselic on the NIRVANA influence on today's bands' music, as quoted in the current issue of Rolling Stone: “I feel it maybe more with SLIPKNOT [than I do in bands like LIMP BIZKIT or BLINK-182]. I went to see [SLIPKNOT] — I didn't know what they were about — and they had an intense show. I started listening to their music and was really drawn in. It brought me back to thinking, 'God, I should be doing more music.' '

The freshly reunited San Francisco Bay Area funk-thrashers MORDRED have reportedly scrapped their previously announced plans for a Memorial Day weekend live debut and are now in the process of lining up another, as-yet-announced gig in the area later in September. A show at The Pound in San Francisco sometime in October has also apparently been booked. As previously reported, MORDRED's present formation includes vocalist Scott Holderby, bassist Art Libbon, guitarist James Sanguinetti, DJ/keboardist Aaron “Pause” Vaughn, and drummer Gannon Hall.

In related news, the freshly reformed San Francisco Bay Area thrash act MERCENARY—which, at one point, included future MORDRED members Jim Sanguinetti (guitar) &amp Gannon Hall (drums)—will be making their live debut on Tuesday, November 13th at the Covered Wagon Saloon (Lucifer's Hammer) in San Francisco (5th and Folsom St.). In other news, MERCENARY guitarist/mainman Sven Soderlund's “main” project MULTIPLY is in the middle of completing a five-song demo with producer Vincent Wojno (i.e. MACHINE HEAD, KREATOR),which they hope to officially release in the coming weeks. MULTIPLY will also be one of the opening acts at the October 12th headlining show by the reunited EXODUS, on a bill that will also include TECHNOCRACY, the new group of former VIO-LENCE axeman Phil Demmel.

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following update to his posting from several days ago in which he indicated that METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich was unsuccessfully trying to reach him by phone: “We were given some misinformation as to which member of METALLICA was looking for me. Sorry to get your hopes up but I will not be saying anything about who called or the conversation. Please understand.'

FLOTSAM &amp JETSAM drummer Craig Nielsen has addressed the rumors of the group's imminent break-up following the recent departure of vocalist Eric A.K. from the band's ranks in a posting on the act's official message board. According to Nielsen, “the band has not even yet decided to continue or not beyond this upcoming tour, let alone made any calls on new permanent members. We look forward to starting rehearsals with [HELSTAR/DESTINY'S END vocalist] James [Rivera] in the near future, but should there be any future recordings, this will take a whole entirely different mindset, and nobody ever said that Eric A.K. didn't want to record future FLOTSAM records, even if he himself didn't make that clear, it is far from even discussed what we would do given another record by the label. Once we get past these new obstacles and all the feeling-out process, then we can tackle what's next. Also, I just got word from Europe that the [European] tour is still a go, pending the completion of the last 3 or so dates yet to confirm, without which it could #### everything up.”

The following e-mail from Metal Edge editor Paul Gargano regarding the much-debated status of the missing Tim Kelly Memorial Fund (the SLAUGHTER guitarist that was tragically killed in a car collision back in early 1998) was posted on the Metal Sludge web site:

...

“I've received a number of emails about the money missing from the Tim Kelly Memorial Fund, and quite frankly, I'm appalled at the irresponsibility of the person who initiated this online 'campaign'. I've been 'friends' with SLAUGHTER for years, and in fact stood with the band at Tim Kelly's funeral. Anyone that truly knows the band or the Kelly family knows the truth about what became of the memorial fund. The facts are as follows:

...

“The money from the Tim Kelly Memorial Fund (roughly $5,000),was in fact embezzled (stolen) from the Bank Of America, NV account approximately a year ago by two personal 'friends' of Tim Kelly's who had access to the account. The parties have absolutely no relation to SLAUGHTER. Consequently, one of the parties filed for bankruptcy soon after acquiring the funds. The family and the band know who these people are, as do I, but their names are not important for the clarification of the rumors and speculation being falsely circulated via the Internet…

...

“These are indisputable facts, and anyone who truly is a friend of SLAUGHTER or the Kelly family will not dispute them. While it's sickening that 'friends' would take advantage of a deceased friend in such a manner, it is equally as sickening that there are people out there who would rather orchestrate smear campaigns against SLAUGHTER, than let the spirit of Tim Kelly rest in peace.

...

“While the Internet is a valuable tool, it also enables people to be irresponsible and negligent in spreading misinformation and starting rumors. Unfortunately, we can't control these attention-craving individuals, but that doesn't mean we have to give their unfounded ramblings any further credence by acknowledging them.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

...

August 29 - CRYPTOPSY is leaving Montreal today to initiate The Pain Cometh European tour 2001. The first of 29 concerts will take place tomorrow evening in England, the tour will end in Greece at the end of September. Since there seems to be some confusion regarding the Istanbul show in Turkey that unfortunately won't be happening, here's some precisions coming from Rockatak Productions explaining the situation:

...

'CRYPTOPSY was supposed to conclude the European tour September 30th in Turkey, but a month ago the Istanbul concert has been cancelled by the local promoters. The band then took the decision to end the tour September 29th in Greece because they have to come back to Canada and prepare for the Japanese tour scheduled for the beginning of October.

...

“Two weeks ago the show in Istanbul came back on the bill but at that time it was impossible for CRYPTOPSY to make it since the plane tickets for the trip back to Montreal were already bought. CRYPTOPSY is planning another journey in Europe for Spring 2002 and hopes to make a stop in Turkey this time around.'
