ANTHRAX Guitarist To Attend ANVIL Film Screenings

January 6, 2008

ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian will appear at various screenings of "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, which runs January 17-27, 2008, in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Sundance, Utah. Scott stars as "Metal Liaison" in the film.

"Anvil! The Story of Anvil" is a mockumentary-like true account of fiftysomething Canadian heavy-metal practitioners Robb Reiner and Steve "Lips" Kudlow who, after a desultory European tour with their band ANVIL, decide to record a 13th album in a final attempt to fulfill their boyhead dreams of stardom.

Screening times for "Anvil! The Story Of Anvil" at the Sundance Film Festival:

* Friday, January 18, 5:30pm - Library Center Theatre, Park City
* Saturday, January 19, 9:00pm - Tower Theatre, SLC
* Sunday, January 20, noon - Egyptian Theatre, Park City
* Saturday January 26, midnight - Egyptian Theatre, Park City
* Monday, January 21, 11:00am - Yarrow, Park City (press screening)

Regarding the documentary footage — which was filmed and directed by Sacha Gervasi, who worked as writer on the Steven Spielberg-directed movie "The Terminal" (2004) — Lips told Total Rock in April 2006, "There's been some moments I wished that [the cameras] weren't there. I even had to say, 'You've gotta shut the thing off right now because I'm gonna lose my temper and I don't think that needs to be on film.' [Laughs] [It's very easy to forget that the cameras are there] and you could say things that you really shouldn't say."

Sacha is an old friend of the band's that used to do some roadie work for them back in the 1980s. He has filmed some of their shows from their November 2005 and June 2006 European tours. He also filmed Lips' 50th birthday show at Heads or Tails in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada on February 25, 2006. As well, he filmed some of the recording of "This Is Thirteen". Sacha also interviewed many people from ANVIL's past and present, including former bandmembers.

Metal Fanzine conducted a behind-the-scenes interview with Lips at the "Metal On Metal 25th Anniversary Concert" on September 15, 2007 at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio. The 21-minute clip — which includes performance footage from the show — can be viewed below.
