AKERCOCKE Guitarist Quits

February 28, 2010

Guitarist Matt Wilcock has left British extreme metal veterans AKERCOCKE. He says in a statement, "After five years with AKERCOCKE and a lot of good times, it's now time for me to move on. Musically, I'm differing a bit with the natural path that AKERCOCKE's taking, so it's best for me to part ways now. There's no shit between anyone, and I'm thoroughly looking forward to going out with a bang (or blast) on these last four shows [in early March as the support act for DARK FUNERAL]. Full respect to the guys, especially Jason [Mendonça] and Dave [Gray, drums]. I'll be continuing to work with Dave on THE ANTICHRIST IMPERIUM which will be up and running very soon. Also much respect to everyone I've met on the road and at shows etc."

AKERCOCKE will support DARK FUNERAL on the following dates:

March 12 - Leeds, UK - Rio's
March 13 - Glasgow, UK - Hammerfest/Pontins Holiday Park
March 14 - Nottingham, UK - Rescue Rooms
March 15 - London, UK - Underworld

Wilcock and Gray 's new project called THE ANTICHRIST IMPERIUM will have a MySpace page up in the coming month or two, along with audio samples. A summer release for the group's debut album is expected.

THE ANTICHRIST IMPERIUM is a three-piece outfit featuring Nikki from TED MAUL on vocals and bass, Matt on guitar and vocals and David on drums.

AKERCOCKE 's debut DVD, "A Decade of Devil Worship", is scheduled for release later this year.

Video footage of AKERCOCKE performing the song "Leviathan" live at UK Deathfest on May 3, 2009 at Leeds University Union in Leeds, U.K. can be viewed below (clip uploaded by Dave Ingham a.k.a. YouTube user "triptykon").

AKERCOCKE's music video for the song "Axiom" was directed by Erica Herbert of HSI London (NIRVANA, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE). Her surrealist vision is the perfect compliment to AKERCOCKE's brutally beautiful sound. Deemed "a unique and beautiful visual outing" by Jason Mendonça, "Axiom" leaves the realm of mere music video and enters the realm of pure art.

"Axiom" comes off AKERCOCKE's latest release, "Antichrist" (2007),which is said to be "yet another step forward in AKERCOCKE's ever-evolving journey into darkness."
