AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry has come to the defense of "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson who was suspended from the A&E reality-TV show over controversial remarks Phil made about gays and black people in a magazine interview. The 67-year-old Robertson came under fire last week from gay-rights group GLAAD last week after his inflammatory comments in a GQ interview, calling homosexuality a sin, saying the Nazis needed Jesus and that he never saw the mistreatment of any black person growing up in Louisiana before the civil-rights era. "It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man's anus; that's just me," said Robertson, who is an Evangelical Christian. "I mean, come on, dudes! ... It's just not logical." Asked by GQ's Drew Magary what exactly he considered sinful, Robertson said: "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there — bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men." In a December 22 tweet, Perry sent the following message to his 250,000-plus followers at 1:46 p.m.: "So what do you think about this 'Duck Dynasty' hoopla? More crackin' down on Freedom of Speech in the US or what?" Four minutes later, at 1:50 p.m., Perry tweeted: "Seems to me people have a right to express their opinions & religious beliefs. But that doesn't mean we have to agree."
