LAMB OF GOD Frontman Officially Indicted On Manslaughter Charge In Czech Republic - Dec. 3, 2012
According to the Czech news portal Novinky.cz, a Czech state attorney filed criminal charges against LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe on Friday (November 30) related to the death of a fan in Prague two years ago, the attorney's office spokeswoman Štepánka Zenklová told the Czech News Agency (CTK). The Prague City Court has three months to set the trial date or return the case to the police and state attorney for further investigation.

Blythe is facing the possibility of conviction and a long-term jail sentence after a 2010 incident in which a fan attending a LAMB OF GOD show died almost a month later, allegedly from injuries sustained when he was thrown off the stage. Blythe's predicament has galvanized the heavy rock community, with artists across the hard rock genre pledging their support.

Shortly after being released from the Pankrác prison in Prague in early August, Blythe sat down with Mark Holmberg of WTVR-TV — the CBS television affiliate based in Richmond, Virginia — to discuss his 37-day stay at the notorious Czech Republic penitentiary (see video below).

Asked about his vow to go back to Prague if there is a trial, Randy said, "I feel ethically responsible to go back there and face this charge. [The victim's] family right now is in a lot of pain, and they deserve some answers. To lose a child is the worst possible thing a human can go through, I think .. I want my name cleared. I have to go around the world and tour, you know. That's what I do. I'm not going to hide here. I'm an innocent man. I'm going to go to court and see what happens."

Regarding what the "worst-case scenario" is if he returns to Prague for a trial, Blythe told Metal Hammer magazine, "Ten years with no time off for good behavior. For my particular charge — we're saying manslaughter, but it's assault in the fourth degree with intent, resulting in the death of this young man — the sentence for that is five to 10 years with no time off. So the worst-case scenario is that get out when I'm 51, 52 years old. It's not something I really try to dwell on too much, because it's scary. I don't want to go to prison, I don't want that to happen, but the fact of the matter is it could happen. I will deal with it as it comes, that's all! can do. If you have one foot in the past and one foot in the future, you're pissing on the present. And right now, all! have is the present so I prepare myself the best I can. My band is behind me and my family's behind me and we're gonna do our best to prove my innocence. But worrying about a nebulous uncertain future, or being super-bummed out that l went to prison for 37 days does me no good."

Like how they kept raising his bail each time he paid it. I respect that Randy seems intent in traveling back to the Czech Republic to fight this, but I don't have much faith that he'll get a fair trial.

Wonder if the family of the victim is pressing this or if over there it's just much more aggressive in the handling of this kind of thing? This kind of incident is a regular occurrence and this was a tragic accident, period. Blythe did not throw this fan off the stage with intent to kill, and I've not seen one video yet that even shows him personally throw him. If Blythe goes down for this, no band should ever play over there again.

That kid rushed the stage 3 times, and the security failed to do their job, period. That kid died on what was probably one of the best and most exciting nights of his life due to an accident and nobody should be held responsible for it besides the kid himself for putting himself at risk repeatedly. This should not even being going to trial.

While I respect Randy for being humble, I would not go back to the Czech Republic if I were him. That would be asking to go to jail. As if one full month in prison wasn't bad enough.

anyone thinks that Blythe will get a fair shake over there, you're kidding yourself. How he is taking all this casually is beyond me.

The mere fact that there's an indictment on him STILL kind of winks at the notion that if he goes for a trial, he ain't coming back any time soon.

Hopes Randy has seen any episodes of "Locked up abroad". That shit is flat out scary. Going to prison here in the USA would be scary enough, but going to prison over THERE? For 10 years? Sorry, fuck that.

I'd take my chances and make any attempt at having to go over there. No fucking way.

I hate to say it, but Blythe doesn't stand a chance in hell of a fair trial. The whole thing smells of Czech political types trying to make an example of a foreigner. It was an unfortunate, incident for the kid who died, but that's all it was and now, Randy is fucked.

Good luck anyway!

I know he says he's going back, but I really hope he changes his mind. There's no way in hell they're going to let him walk, even if the evidence is clear as day that he's innocent. All the bullshit they've already pulled shows that they're clearly stacking the deck against him and want to make an example out of an American with a little bit of fame.

This ridiculous kangaroo court continues to force anyone with a shred of common sense to side with Blythe. They're probably hoping he doesn't go back out of fear which would allow them to spin it their way and not come off as the international jack-ass association of the modern civilized world.

Stay home Blythe, you don't deserve to rot over this. The U.S. government has not shown the slightest interest in backing you one single step of the way. At this point it's not about the kid anymore, it's a fucking witch-hunt in order for the Czech prosecutors to save face.

As much as I respect the stance Randy is taking, I would def NOT go back. Fuck the money lost. He has kids and a family as do I. If there was even a chance that I could be separated from them for up to 10 years, I would do whatever it takes to keep that from happening. You're the man Randy, but forget about the CR and forget about the family of the deceased kid. The CR has already proven that they don't intend on playing fair. STAY IN THE US!

To say he would go back and face trial there is very honourable, but it's a bad idea, they want to punish him no matter what because they aren't looking for justice, they're looking for some kind of revenge.

Don't go back man. If you know you're innocent you don't have to put yourself in danger, there's already one family suffering, don't make your own family suffer too.

This does not bode well for Mr. Blythe. Obviously the Prague State Attorney's office feels the likelihood of a conviction is good.

One of two things is likely to happen - no-show for court resulting in the band never again playing (with Randy Blythe) on European soil. Much more likely is a plea bargain with Randy serving some time and a very large fine.

Who knows - perhaps the band could end up playing a charity gig - much like what happened to Keith Richards in Toronto in 1979.

If this was Justin Bieber, Katy Perry or Maroon 5. They would have payed off the family and the judge to drop the charges. But since Randy is in a band that plays metal, not even Obama, Eric Holder, Ross Perot or the United Nations care if some other country wants to throw around their own weight just so they can say that they imprisoned a American citizen.
